Writing Prompt

As climate changes, regions of the world are experiencing prolonged cycles of drought-like conditions. Meanwhile, the ever-growing human population is putting a strain on natural resources such as fresh water.

In a small group, summarize Janet Raloff's main ideas about groundwater supplies in "Many of Earth’s groundwater basins are drying out." Describe the key evidence (or details) she uses to inform her readers. Discuss the author's purpose for writing the text and identify the intended audience. Be ready to share your ideas with the rest of the class.
