Writing Prompt

Humans have an impact on their environments. They destroy ecosystems, exploit land for resources, pollute, and introduce non-native species. Some people try to intervene in other ways with the intent of preserving the natural world. Does nature need our help?

Write a summary of today's article. As you write your summary, complete the following steps:  
STEP 1: Your first step is to understand the text. If you have not read the article carefully, do that now.  
STEP 2: Look back at the article and do the following:  
Pull out the topic sentences for each paragraph.  
Take out any details that are not necessary.  
Put the information into a single paragraph.  
STEP 3: Rethink your summary and the article.  
STEP 4: Check and double-check.
