Top 10 Literacy Skills for Common Core Readiness!

By on January 26, 2014

In preparation for Common Core exams, we are all working hard to understand the new national standards and what they mean for our students. We know that you are busy. We all have lots to think about and even more to do. We also know that teaching students how to read, speak, and write about texts is the focus of Common Core's College and Career Readiness Standards and what students need to be successful in school and at work.

Therefore, this week we have identified 10 literacy skills that get students moving with Common Core reading, speaking, and writing standards. Narrowing our list of over 60 skills to a top 10 can save you time and help you focus on powerful literacy skills that improve students' performance.

Visit our Skill Library and scroll down to the Top 5 Reading Skills and Top 5 Speaking and Writing Skills. Want to know where to start with each skill? Click on our Skill Instruction Pacing Guide to learn how we suggest you roll out new Common Core skills.

Let us know how we are doing and how we can continue to help you transition to the new national standards.

Literacy Standards In Action

We've mapped our literacy lessons and reading, speaking, and writing skills to state standards, Common Core, and NGSS. The standards are "the what" to teach. Our lessons are "the how" to meet the expectations defined by the standards. Click on the links below to view our quick reference table that maps standards to literacy lessons.
