Summary writing is easy. Yep. That's what I thought, until I had to teach it. Turns out, my students, even my honors and AP kids, were having a tough time writing summaries of the content they'd just learned. Many assumed that "just changing a couple words" from a direct quote meant they had summarized the lesson.
Happy Monday!!! Really...I mean it...Happy Monday!!! I know that at this time of year it can be pretty hard for me to get motivated on a Monday morning. Spring Break already seems worlds away and although summer is near, we still have a long road ahead. Finding the energy, drive, and enthusiasm to teach to my fullest potential can be a struggle.
The "I Know/You Know" pair-share activity is a great way to get students up out of their chairs and sharing ideas. I consider this strategy a "structured interaction" because there are specific roles and tasks that the students must follow. Students tend to do better in collaborative environments if they have a process to follow.
