LiteracyTA is committed to supporting teachers as they make the transition to the Common Core and prepare for new professional standards and teacher evaluations. Educators in America and around the world (I'm thinking about our DOD folks making a difference for children of military families) are experiencing new, more rigorous standards for teaching and learning.
Last week, I sat down with my colleagues at Oak Valley Middle School and took a practice Common Core exam. The test was developed by Smarter Balanced (one of two testing organizations developing the Common Core exams. Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers or PARCC is the other testing company).
As students walked into our classroom the morning before our Socratic Seminar, I listened to them discuss what they recently saw on Vine, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and other social networking sites. Again, I was reaffirmed of how engaged and connected they are to their mobile devices.
This has been a year of big changes for me as an educator. I am now teaching ELD and AVID at the high school level, after 13 years of teaching middle school. Holy adjustment Batman!
