Let's Plan for the 10 Common Core Reading Standards
By Jonathan LeMaster on May 12, 2014This week we finished breaking down the 10 Common Core Reading Standards. Five months ago, we set out to unpack all of the reading standards to support teachers as they begin to plan and teach reading skills across science, history, and English classes. Many of you have enjoyed our series on unpacking the reading standards, so we decided to write a post that pulled them all together.
For planning purposes, we have linked all 10 Common Core Reading Standards eCoach posts below. Each post breaks down the standard and offers practical ways to teach the standard.
- Reading Standard 1
- Reading Standard 2
- Reading Standard 3
- Reading Standard 4
- Reading Standard 5
- Reading Standard 6
- Reading Standard 7
- Reading Standard 8
- Reading Standard 9
- Reading Standard 10
We have also added a link under each reading standard in our Common Core section that takes you to the unpacking of that standard.
We broke down each standard and aligned literacy skills in our Skill Library to the standard. In the table titled "Breaking the Standards into Skills," you can find practical skills and activities to help you plan your Common Core reading lessons for next year.
Here are some additional LiteracyTA tools and resources to consider when developing your Common Core lessons.

Literacy Standards In Action
We've mapped our literacy lessons and reading, speaking, and writing skills to state standards, Common Core, and NGSS. The standards are "the what" to teach. Our lessons are "the how" to meet the expectations defined by the standards. Click on the links below to view our quick reference table that maps standards to literacy lessons.
